CHARLOTTE KICKOFF NIGHT POWERED BY ORTHOCAROLINA RETURNS FOR YEAR 11

The Carolinas’ best high school football programs will be featured in the 11th annual Charlotte Kickoff Night powered by OrthoCarolina

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Teall Properties Group (TPG) & OrthoCarolina are proud to announce the matchups, date and location of the 11th annual Charlotte Kickoff Night powered by OrthoCarolina. This first-class community event continues to serve as the highly anticipated start to the high school football season. Keeping with its roots, the Charlotte Kickoff Night powered by OrthoCarolina will be played at Memorial Stadium in the heart of Uptown Charlotte on Friday evening, August 23, 2024.

“Charlotte Kickoff Night powered by OrthoCarolina has become one of the Carolinas’ most exciting sporting traditions, and OrthoCarolina is honored to not only play an integral role in the evening’s festivities, but also in the day-to-day care of so many of these passionate student-athletes,” said Dr. Dana P. Piasecki, Surgeon and Director of the Sports, Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship Program at OrthoCarolina. “Our longstanding partnership with TPG has helped to power this meaningful community event which brings together sports fans of all ages and marks the return of football season in the region, and we are grateful for the opportunity to provide comprehensive high-quality orthopedic care to Charlotte’s most dedicated student-athletes at this event and throughout the season.”

Game One, scheduled for 5:15 p.m., will be this year’s “Carolina border war” featuring two highly recognized football programs: the Northwestern Trojans (Rock Hill, S.C.) against the Hough Huskies (Cornelius, N.C.). Led by head coach Page Wofford, who has over 20 years of coaching experience and dozens of winning seasons, Northwestern’s football program is steeped in South Carolina tradition, and the program is hungry to begin the 2024 season with a win. Senior Quarterback Finley Polk is looking to follow in the footsteps of former Northwestern QB and current Tennessee Titan Mason Rudolph by helping lead the Trojans to a State Championship. Meanwhile, the Hough Huskies, led by head coach DeShawn Baker, are fresh on the heels of an impressive 11-2 season and are reloading with a talented roster. Junior Cornerback Samari Matthews, a highly rated 2026 recruit who has Division I scholarship offers from more than 20 universities, and the stacked Huskies lineup are ready to prove they are still a contender for a 4A NCHSAA State Championship.

Game Two, scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m., will feature the renewed rivalry of two top 4A NCHSAA programs – located mere miles from one another in south Charlotte – in one of the biggest events of the year. In a rematch of last year’s contentious week one battle, the Ardrey Kell Knights (Charlotte, N.C.) will suit up and host the Providence Panthers (Charlotte, N.C.). Led by head coach Greg Jachym Ardrey Kell, which many consider an underrated football program in the South Mecklenburg 4A Conference, has a strong history of winning and is looking to build upon last season’s 7-4 record. But the Providence Panthers, a young team with a big appetite look to take spoils and under the direction of head coach Weslee Ward. With both Junior Quarterback Jackson Debe and Sophomore Wide Receiver Otavio Oliveira retuning, the Panthers expect to see growth in their offense. Although last year’s matchup was a defensive showdown it looks like we are primed for an offensive shootout this year.

“Now in its 11th year, we are so proud that Charlotte Kickoff Night powered by OrthoCarolina continues to be one of the most highly anticipated and respected high school football events in the greater Charlotte community” said Chad Cook of Teall Properties Group. “We are excited to have four very talented programs participate this year and look forward to providing a memorable experience for the students and their communities. This event would not be possible without the support of our great partner, OrthoCarolina.”

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Middle School Athletics and Women’s Athletics.
